Thanks to everyone who came out to the Pianos show last week, and to Bellman Barker for bringing the honey to the cross-pollination.

09.03.09

Wow. Has nothing newsworthy happened in this long? The first thing to go when the economy tanks is, err... my ability to type, apparently. This span of web silence has been productive otherwise, and I'm now chipping away at the last bits of a new album, featuring some of the fruits of another ostensibly productive activity of late--practicing piano. I'll try to get some clips up on here soon.

08.06.08

Midsummer update: Well, let's see... Moore and Sons have finished and released the new album, Local Attachments; shows to follow in the fall. Pete Galub and the Annuals have almost finished mixing the new, as yet untitled album, and I'm at work recording new songs for the next Tom Gavin album. In more recent news, I'll be playing some shows this month with Shannon McArdle, formerly of the Mendoza Line, who has just released her first solo album, Summer of the Whore. I think that's about all for now. I think.

03.08.08

The coming months should see the release of a couple of albums I'm involved with: a new Moore and Sons album is due out by summer, as well as the long-awaited album by Pete Galub and the Annuals.

10.27.07

The new album, Into the Weeds is back from pressing and available in CD or mp3 form at CD Baby and DigStation. You can hear some samples or purchase a CD itself, on the music page as well.

09.14.07

At long last, Into the Weeds is out for pressing. With any luck, CDs will be arriving in early October. In the meantime, next weekend I'll be playing a brief solo set of new music as part of Pete Galub's "Galabalooza" at Banjo Jim's on Saturday September 22. There will also be a bunch of other performances, from comedy to free improv and back again.

05.15.07

Well, I guess I can't really justify putting off another news entry any longer. When I last posted, I had just finished a new recording, and promptly left the country for about eight months. Chalk it up to good business sense. Now that I'm back in Brooklyn and relatively settled, I should have CDs of Into the Weeds printed up, um... soon. And then there are the new "new" songs...

06.06.06

Recording and mixing for the new new album, "Into the weeds", was completed in the final hours of May 2006. However, since I'll be away for the rest of the year, CDs won't be available until 2007. In the meantime, there are mp3 clips up on the music page for all the new songs.

04.23.06

The performances listed in May will almost certainly be my last (scheduled?) shows for the rest of this year, as I'll be heading off on a long trip that at best will include singing for my supper. I'll be at Hank's Saloon on May 18 for a going away party of sorts, featuring both the Tom Gavin Trio and Pete Galub and the Annuals. Please come out and catch this "last show for a while".

03.30.06

Pete Galub and the Annuals (Chris Moore and drums and Tom Gavin on bass) spent last week at BC Sound in Brooklyn, working on the new Pete Galub CD with engineer Martin Bisi. It sounds great! ...well, it's not done just yet, but check out Pete Galub's website for breaking news.

02.02.06

In preparation for March's recording dates, Pete Galub and the Annuals will be playing at The Lakeside Lounge, every Sunday at 9pm, thoughout February. Expect special guest appearances, free admission, Pete accidentally unplugging his amp from the wall in a fit of ecstatic harmelodicism... who knows what will happen next! Come on down!

01.23.06

Well, far past the curve, I finally broke down and got a page on myspace. Visit me there! Be my myspace friend, or whatever.

12.20.05

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Hotbird 7 show at Southpaw last week. You can also listen to the live WFMU radio performance at the archives for Irene Trudell's show at the listing for December 12 here.

12.09.05

Some Italian fans have been kind enough to post a mention and a link to my mp3 for "plans for yourself" on their site. This clip has also found it's way onto a couple more on-line playlists, for Radio Free Chauncy and Quirky Favorites. There's that word again. Anyway, check them out.

11.19.05

The new Hotbird 7 website is up and running. check it out here for all sorts of Hotbird-related stuff.

10.27.05

Moore and Sons (Chris Moore, Dennis Cronin, Adam Gold, Gary Langol, and Tom Gavin) are heading up to the Detroit area next week to record Chris Moore's new album, featuring much of the music from recent shows, as well as some newer material. Wish us luck...

09.29.05

My sincere thanks to everyone that made it out to the Fallout CD release party. We had a great time, and--as far as I know--have not been fined by Makor for exceding the volume restrictions.

09.05.05

The long-awaited (by some, I think?) CD Release Party for Fallout will finally take place this fine month. Scheduled for September 28 at Makor, it marks perhaps the first appearance of a Tom Gavin solo or band gig above 14th Street. As such, it will feature a bit of both of those personae, as well as special guests The Godsberg Brass, and maybe more...

08.29.05

Another kind stranger has put one of the songs from Fallout on his blog playlist. Check him out here.

08.23.05

Independent and College radio stations across the country are now being forced to play songs from Fallout. Check with your local djs, call and request, or send them a copy if you must!

07.27.05

CDBaby, that bastion of... eh, you know, that website where people sell their independent CDs, has told me that they are putting Fallout up as a featured album this week. Starting sometime in the next 36 hours, it will appear on the front page of their site, along with a review. Check it out, write another review, buy it, sell it, dip it, whatever.

06.27.05

Thanks to everyone who came out the Knitting Factory last week, for a good cause, and what was rumored to have been a sold-out show... enduring the lack of air-conditioning, which was rumored to have been caused by "one of the bands".

06.19.05

This Tuesday, June 21, at the Knitting Factory, a Benefit for the Roddy Scott Diabetes Fund, featuring Vietnam, Pineapples, Terrifica, The Golden Dawn, and Tom Gavin. For more information about the Roddy Scott fund, please visit www.pacf.org.

05.30.05

Check out beattheindiedrum.com, a blog that has put "it's a sign" from Fallout on it's recent playlist.

05.29.05

June 21 marks the first appearance of Tom Gavin's band since the completion of Fallout. Originally scheduled for CBGBs, this benefit has taken on larger proportions and is now booked at the Knitting Factory's main space. It's "A Benefit For The Roddy Scott Diabetes Foundation"--don't miss it!

05.27.05

New look, same old content... well, mostly. The website has had a facelift in the spirit of the cover for the new album, Fallout. If you hadn't guessed, I am trying to use that exact phrase as many times as possible. As for real news, I have a full band show coming up in June at CBGBs as part of a benefit, and a Fallout CD release "party" pending--more later.

05.13.05

The new Tom Gavin album, Fallout, in officially unofficially available. You can get it online at CD Baby, or right here at tomgavin.net on the music page. Stay tuned for information on official release events.

04.17.05

Okay, okay--mp3s of select songs from the new album are now up on the music page. If you can't stand going to that page, here's an mp3 of fallout, the song.

04.17.05

Just a quick update on the new Tom Gavin album, Fallout--it is out for pressing and should be back within the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned for how to obtain hundreds of copies.

03.29.05

In case you missed it, Tom Gavin appeared live with Moore and Sons playing on WFMU yesterday afternoon, on the Irene Trudel Show. For a limited time, the show will be available on-line at WFMU in high-quality stereophonic mp3, after which it will allegedly be available in some sort of low quality, monaural format.

03.22.05

I was searching for something to do today--call it boredom--and decided to spruce up the look of this site with an homage to "cheap and easy...". Now, when the new album is really available, I can return to the last design and have a "fresh" look to accompany the release.

03.21.05

Well, Fallout--the new album, the new song, my new middle name, etc.--is actually really almost done. With any luck, the master will be ready for replication this week. The newest incarnation of the cover art is (still) to the left. I'll try to get some mp3s up soon on the music page. Really!
